ABOUT
Hi, I'm Suzanne —
(my friends call me Suz)
I’m a potter, writer, teacher and lover of ideas, beauty and laughs (especially when found all together).
I am both dainty and punk rock in my aesthetic - so I love both elegant simplicity and provocative, thought-inducing, humour in my work. As far as I'm concerned, the two are incredible bedfellows. For that reason, I am interested in using my ceramics to bring forth the raw pleasure of joy as well as to illuminate social, philosophical and political messages that make the user think. I love the idea of using everyday objects to elicit laughter, teach, comfort, provoke and inspire.
My professional (and personal) relationship with clay
Clay has been in my life (Diploma! BFA!), on and off, for a long time now. But after years of relentless flirting, I have decided to finally commit to Clay. Clay and I teach each other pottery at the College Of The Rockies here in Golden BC — and we also maintain a part time studio practice together. I know, it's a lot of time spent with each other and although we do fight sometimes we still remain desperately, mutually enamoured.
Clay often clings to my skin, wraps itself in my hair and finds its way into my mouth. I don't want to say that clay is obsessed with me (Clay just can't stay away!) but I will admit that I do find Clay's neediness kind of charming.

If you like the combination of modernly understated and still saucy-I might be just the right potter for you. If you love beauty and truth and laughing and thinking -we will definitely get on just fine.

If you think simple means "basic" we might not be a good fit and that's totally cool. I gotta be me and you gotta do you. I like all the crazy aesthetic freak flags waving around.
I am also a cis, white, straight, married, thin, able bodied and minded progressive woman. Sometimes I like to use my privileged voice to support the marginalized, human rights and my own gender. If this bothers you, well, not much I can do about that. Hate sucks AND I will call it like I see it.
